Amazon.com Product Description

Introduce baby to a place full of exciting sights and sounds and lots of safe jumping fun with the Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo. Designed for use by a child who is able to hold his or her head up unassisted, and who is not yet able to climb out or walk, this baby jumper delights baby with interactive play options and stimulating movement to help encourage healthy development.

Promotes Comfort and Security
The Rainforest Jumperoo is a safe and comfortable place for baby to sit and play, whether he stays for just a moment or for several minutes. Two soft leaves extend from the frame to create an overhead canopy with soft toys that dangle down for fun bat-at play. It also features a rotating seat with soft spring covers that keep little fingers safe from pinching, and three-position height adjustment for a custom fit.

Stimulating Interactive Play
Everything your baby needs at play-time can be found in this Rainforest Jumperoo. Its newly designed frame both allows you to open it up from the top, and lets the seat rotate 360 degrees so baby can play and interact from any side. A fun seat and toys at five locations on the platform engage baby all the way around, and an electronic toy at the front has motion, music and lights that can be activated by baby spinning a drum. (Mom or Dad can also activate an option for four minutes of continuous play.)
Little explorers will also enjoy playing with the Jumperoo's many animals and toys, including a bobbling elephant, a monkey swinging from a vine, a parrot hanging from a bead bar, a clear spinning bead ball, a tiger that plays hide and seek, a spinning lizard that makes rattling sounds, a tethered chew toy, and a stack of chips with eye-catching graphics for baby to explore.
Encourages Healthy Development
The Rainforest Jumperoo is designed to help encourage healthy development. Moving, spinning, and jumping in a baby jumper enhances large motor skills. Secondly, the variety of textures integrated into the rainforest toys provide tactile stimulation, while the bright colors and fun music engage your child's visual and auditory senses. This educational system also enhances learning through discovery; baby's actions make things happen, helping him to understand cause and effect. Finally, reaching and grasping onto the baby jumper's toys fosters eye-hand coordination.
Easy to Use, Move, and Store
Parents will appreciate the quick take-down and portability of the Rainforest Jumperoo--the frame pivots to a nested position so it can be tucked away when not in use, and it simply folds so you can carry it from room to room. And no doorway is required to use this toy, making it a breeze to set it up anywhere.
The Rainforest Jumperoo includes a motion sensor that encourages kids by rewarding them with lights and sounds when they jump, has a weight capacity of 25 pounds and maximum height 32 inches, and requires three "AA" batteries (not included). It also measures 32.0 x 43.125 x 37 inches (WxHxD).

Customer Reviews: Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo

We were originally going to get our 8 month old a jumper that you hang from the door. After reading some reviews about injuries and mishaps from jumping into the door frames, we firmly decided against that and researched floor models. We were between this Jumperoo and another one that has 4 support poles as the base. The square Jumperoo didn't have nearly as many toys for her to discover and it seemed to take up much more space. We decided on this Jumperoo because it took up less room and had more toys for only slightly more money. The investment was worth it for just the first 10 minutes of fun! When we first put her in, she wasn't quite sure what to make of it and just looked around at the toys grabbing for them. After she realized (in the first 2 minutes) that she could jump, she did with great joy. Her face was all smiles and watching her kick her feet out while jumping had us all rolling on the floor hysterically. The toys she likes best are the ones that spin and she reaches for the parrot and frog that hang. The tiger that comes up when you push on the button seems pretty useless, as does the color wheel. The whole thing took us about 10 minutes to put together and another few minutes to wash the toys. Remember not the submerge the electronic one and to put 3 AA batteries in it. The box does not include the batteries and you'll need a screwdriver to remove the battery cover. Also, the large spinning ball has a rainbow sticker along the sides that if you don't dry right away, well, they'll start to wrinkle. The Jumperoo does fold up for easier carrying/stowing but it's not a smooth transition. I don't see us doing it that often however. As I mentioned, the entertainment that the adults got was well worth the cost initially. And now, our baby girl has a great time bouncing on it while strengthening her legs. She doesn't seem to like jumping without an audience but maybe she will when she gets a little older. Don't wait to get this, you won't regret it!! **09/02/2009 UPDATE** Well, 2 kids and 2 1/2 years later, we finally decided to sell our Jumperoo. Would you believe we received tons of inquiries and eventually received nearly 70% of our original purchase price? What terrific resale value!
By Mute208 (SF Bay Area, CA)
We have an active baby that really likes to stand, tries to walk when held, and always wants to be on the move -- it can be exhausting. From reviews I read, the Jumperoo seemed like a great toy to provide excercise and fun for the baby (and a short break for Mom & Dad).

The long awaited Rainforest Jumperoo finally came about a week ago! Since we had pre-ordered from Amazon in November anticipating a Christmas gift, we were disappointed that there were delays and it was not expected 'til well after the holidays.

In the meantime, my 3 month old son was anxious to move and had lots of energy, so I bought the Deluxe Jumperoo at a local retailer about 4 weeks ago. He liked it, but seemed to get bored quickly with the toys and would use it just a few minutes each day.

Some of the key differences with the Rainforest Jumperoo:

- The seat rotates 360 degrees and there are toys all around it, so there is always something new to look at -- and he can change his view of the room by himself (he's just starting to turn in it on his own).

- There are animals hanging above his head from the "leaves" and the baby loves to look at them and sometimes jumps to try and reach them.

- The music & sounds are pretty cool...like they would play at a carribean restaurant. The Deluxe music was okay, but the "boinging" noises (although fun at first) got annoying pretty quickly.

- The format is round versus the old A-frame style -- although I feared it would take up even more space, it actually looks less obtrusive and fits in the room better. It's easier to get by and doesn't trip you!

- There are three hanging springs (versus four) which seems to offer more mobility and freedom of movement. Sometimes he just sways around.

- Now nearly 4 months old, our son will spend happy stretches of 20-30+ minutes multiple times a day in the Rainforest version. Less than a week ago, he would spend about 15 minutes a day in the Deluxe version.

- The Rainforest version is attractive and seems well made in comparison to the "Deluxe". It has thoughtful design details -- like the tree frog seat and the silky green tie-dyed fabric under the hanging leaves.

- It appears that when folded it will take less space than the Deluxe -- which is pretty awkward when folded.

- If your decor is more subtle, the Rainforest Jumperoo will probably fit in better than the vibrant blue painted frame of the Deluxe version.

Suggested changes:

- More opions for the height of the seat -- this seems like an easy change the manufacturer could make that would be helpful. My son is pretty tall for his age, but between a "1" and a "2". So his feet are flat on the ground at level 1, and don't quite reach at level 2. This means he stands and sort of walks to get slight bouncing -- versus actually jumping (the toes are supposed to touch but not have feet flat on floor for optimal jumping).

- I would like some sort of storage option (like a vinyl bag it would fit into) to take to another room, store it for company, etc.

Overall, the Rainforest version was a little more expensive than the Deluxe, but in my view, well worth it. The differences are more than cosmetic, and our son really does seem to enjoy it more than than the Deluxe (which is on it's way to Grandma's today).

I bought a Fisher Price jumperoo based on the wonderful reviews and was not disappointed. Because my 4-month old baby loved it so much, I decided to purchase another jumperoo for the g-parents' house. My husband convinced me to buy the Baby Einstein jumper so that our baby would have something different to play with. So far, our baby seems to enjoy jumping in the F-P jumperoo much more than in the B-E jumper.

Below is a list of differences I noticed between the two:

1. The B-E seat is wider than the F-P seat. My baby's body wobbles around a lot in the B-E seat. The F-P seat provides more support and has a extra cushioning behind the head so her head does not wobble when she moves back and forth in the seat.

2. The B-E seat's fabric is cut so that my baby sits on her rear more than in the F-P seat. Because of this, my baby jumps around a lot more in the F-P seat than in the B-E seat.

3. The B-E jumper has more height settings. My baby is able to touch the floor without a cushion or phone book underneath her. She still needs a firm pillow under the F-P jumperoo.

4. The B-E jumper toys seem to be for older babies, who have developed stronger fingers. Some of the toys require quite a bit of coordination to use. The B-E toys that hang above the jumper are actually just plastic rings, which are not very interesting. The F-P toys that hang above the jumper are more colorful and much better quality. My baby studies the F-P toys for long periods of time, but is not interested in the B-E plastic rings.

5. The B-E jumper music toy plays 5 classical music songs, but they are short. The F-P jumperoo's music lasts much longer, even though there are only two different music selections.

Also, the B-E jumper music toy is activated by touching one of the piano keys. The F-P jumperoo music is activated by the baby's jumping. Again, it seems the B-E jumper is for older babies who have better eye-hand coordination. The F-P jumperoo seems to encourage babies to jump more than the B-E jumper.

Mindflex Game

Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Mindflex--featuring a headset that reads your brain waves and a levitating foam ball--is the kind of game that must be seen to be believed. Recommended for players aged eight and older, the game begins when you strap on the headset so you can use your powers of concentration to move the ball around the game console and through a mind-bending obstacle course. A dial-in console lets you to keep the ball lifted on a cushion of air, but raising and lowering the ball must be accomplished by alternating concentrating and relaxing your mind.
Headset Measures your Brain Waves
Tired of games that depend on the roll of a die or lucky draw? With the help of advanced technology, Mindflex introduces a whole new way to play--by using the power of your mind!
You'll feel like a character in a science fiction movie as you strap on the headset, connect the clips to your ear lobes, and align the metal forehead sensor just above your left eyebrow. But even this strange accessory won't prepare you for the sight of a foam ball quivering five inches above the game console!

Move the Ball with the Power of your Mind
Skeptics will be quick to point out that the console's moveable fan nozzle holds the ball aloft on a cushion of air. However, as players learn to alternately focus and relax their minds, the ball will respond by rising and falling. An instruction manual provides various concentration and relaxation techniques to try such as math problems or visualization and practice exercises.
Once you feel like you've mastered the art of telekinesis, you can test your mental acuity with five challenging games designed for groups of one to four players. Use the game console to select your game, set the difficulty level, and track your scores.
Design a Mind-Bending Obstacle Course
A variety of hoops, hurdles, funnels, and a teeter-totter can be positioned however you choose on the game console. Players use their minds to move the ball under, over, or through the obstacles. Several games test speed, while another challenges players to lift a ball up and through a funnel, shooting it across the game console to score points.
While Mindflex's advanced technology is sure to intrigue, mastering the games may prove difficult for some. Because concentration techniques will vary from person to person, the game rewards patience and a willingness to experiment. Fans of mazes and brain teasers will appreciate the mental challenge, and creative types will like designing the obstacle courses.
Mindflex's game console requires four "C" batteries (not included), and the headset requires three "AAA" batteries (not included). The four foam balls should be handled with care to keep their ability to levitate. Fortunately, the game console features an inner compartment for safe ball storage.
What's in the Box
Game console, headset, four foam balls, and various obstacles. (Batteries not included.)

Product Description

A lightweight headset containing sensors for the forehead and earlobes measures your brainwave activity. When you focus your concentration, a small foam ball will rise on a gentle stream of air. Relax your thoughts and the ball will descend. By using a combination of physical and mental coordination, you must then guide the ball through a customizable obstacle course–the various obstacles can be repositioned into many different configurations. Mindflex™ combines advanced technology with the power of thought to create an interactive experience unlike any other– a game where players compete in the ultimate mental marathon!

For ages 8 and up.
Requires 4 "C" and 2 "AAA' batteries.

Customer Reviews: Mindflex Game

If you know the premise of the toy, skip to the second paragraph. This toy takes a measure of brain activity in the left frontal lobe and, based on the amount of activity there, sends power to a fan (high power when high; low or off when low). This raises a foam ball in the air and a dial can be turned with the hands to move the ball through an obstacle course that arrange with detachable pieces.

I read the other reviews. They make some good points. This toy could get boring fast. The headset does get uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. The guy who said that all it does is measure stress is way off-base. He is right that the ear clips are used to complete a circuit, but that is not all this toy does. After playing it for awhile, I can say it responds negatively to stress (i.e., the ball lowers and the fan turns off). I'm basing that off of the fact the fan tended to turn off when I would get worried about it turning off. If it was responding to stress, the power should have increased.

So why am I recommending this toy? Because studies have shown that if you can increase frontal lobe activity through exercises like this, you can increase objective measures of concentration (e.g., amount of time engaged with a task) and decrease measures of impulsivity. And not just for the task where the skill was trained. So a child who got adept at playing this game should also pay better attention in school, likely increase their reading comprehension, do better on homework, etc.

My recommendation is that, if this is something that is interesting to you, you buy this toy for your child and that you play it with them. Set performance goals with them and give them some sort of reward for meeting and exceeding those goals. Start small. At first, get a stopwatch and see how long they can keep the ball in the air. After that, see if they can start to raise and lower the ball a couple of times, then see how many times they can pass it through one of the hoops. And take data the whole time. Chart their data in some way so they can see the progress they are making.

But get this toy!!! In labs where they do this sort of therapy, children with ADHD have shown serious improvement in functioning. Some kids are able to get off meds altogether.

If you want to do a little extra research before purchasing, go to wikipedia and search neurofeedback. There's a good synopsis there with links to some peer-reviewed research at the bottom.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband who is quadriplegic from a Brain Stem Stroke. He loves it. While I have to rotate the fan under the ball to move it around the board. He can move the ball up and down quicker and more accurately than the rest of us . Ie. family and friends, from 4 yrs to 68 yrs. So he can maneuver it through the obstacles faster and win the game. ( some games are timed with the game keeping track of players 1-4's time and announcing the winner).
My husband is finally able to join in the fun and really excel at something.

Caregivers, et al, have noticed my husband responding verbally more after playing this game. (He is usually mute, but has been saying yes and no, and other responses occasionally) . He is obviously making gains therapeutically that he hasn't in many years. Seems like new connections or brain pathways are being formed, and/ or neurons are firing better...great for his attention deficit too!

Back to the fun.... My 68 yr old Mother really enjoyed it , 4 yr old nephew could play, with a little help, 32yr old caregiver loves to play , but I think my 17 yr old nephew may love it most, besides my husband and I. I am thrilled!

It was another big hit at our New Years Eve Party. With everyone waiting for their chance to play. I have even taken it to therapy and now we are planning on having Mind Flex tournaments.

I think this game was WAY worth the price. But I will be happy when the price comes down because I want to purchase more to share.

Btw, buy it! Read the directions before you play and practice moving the ball with your mind. It makes all the difference in understanding how the game works.

Excellent invention! I just hope there are more games using EEG technology to com

purchased the Mindflex Game by Mattel and the Star Wars Force Trainer by Uncle Milton...from Amazon, of course. I gave them to my "grown" son to share with his friends after I tried them out. These are great conversation pieces, ice-breakers, and just plain fun with a group of friends (the right group, of course). Both games work well and as described. I found the Force Trainer to be an excellent place to learn the basics and the Mindflex great for some variety. Adults may have just as much fun (perhaps more) as the kids. I bought another Mindflex to keep for myself.

Desert Hothouse : Customer Reviews

I've had the desert hothouse for about a week and a half. The directions were easy to understand, although the sand and gravel doesn't look much like it does in the example picture. I only "planted" about half of the seeds, expecting to have to add more if the majority didn't germinate. Much to my surprise, after a week and a half, I count at least ten little cacti and one or two succulents already springing to life! I'm very excited that they're doing so well, although I realize that it will probably take at least six months before they look like anything resembling what you see in a store or greenhouse. I have it in an east-facing windowsill, which the plants seem to like quite well.

The downside: this is a wet hothouse, plus the plastic has the imprint of windows and beams on it, making it completely impossible to view the cacti unless the plastic is removed. Since it's kind of hard to remove the plastic without jarring the plants inside, this project is less like a "view every day and see the results" project, it's more like a "view every couple of weeks so as not to bother the growing plants" project. Small children may get bored or frustrated, especially since they won't even be able to peer inside for a glance at the sprouts. Still, I'm very pleased with what's happened so far and I look forward to more growth!
About me: I'm an amateur gardener with no children. This was for me, not for any kids :)
By Jinkster (Washington, D.C.)

When i got it i set it up right away. The instructions were easy, and so was planting it. I don't even have to water it that often. Only about two times a year. After about two weeks later it started to germinate. I recommend it.
Kids enjoy seeing the progress of the plants growing. Took a little while longer than we thought, but they are having fun watching their 'science project! I water more often than the directions say to, that might help speed up the growth! It's in a window that gets sun every morning, great spot!
By J. Pearson (San Diego, Ca United States)

This unit is small and made of somewhat flimsy plastic. Kids (8+10) had fun putting it together and watching the seeds sprout. Not a lot came up (but it is the middle of winter).

Grow Your Own Carnivorous Creations Terrarium : Customer Reviews

I bought this as an early Christmas present for myself. It sounded like a lot of responsibility, but I figured I could handle it. I did everything exactly as the instruction booklet said. I even read up on CPs...books and websites. I put the dome in the fridge for 2 months and on a nice windowsill with light after that. After about 2 and a half months on the windowsill I got a sprout. It was so tiny I couldn't tell which type of CP it was. Like a true geek I looked at the little sprout everyday in aww. I am a bit clumsy. One day I accidently knocked the dome over. My little sprout eventually withered away. I don't think anything will grow from it again because of the shock. I am definitely trying again though. Its worth the wait. I loved my CP sprout. May he/she rest in peace.

I have seen boys and girls ages 2 to 8 captivated by Uncle Milton's "Moon in My Room." As an adult, frankly I think it's pretty cool too!

The moon model has a contured, textured surface. It is a couple of inches thick, curved, so it has real depth. The moon cycles through 12 different phases. I have not seen any evidence of the light turning on automatically after dark, as advertised, but it works fine manually or by activating the automatic 5-seconds per phase cycle. The moon is lit up from a light within and the plastic does not glow in the dark when it is turned off.

The Moon in My Room is advertised as appropriate for ages 6 and up, but since it's mounted on the wall I don't see why it can't go in a toddler's room as long as the remote control is secured. I will echo a previous reviewer's comment that you need to keep track of the remote, as I don't think it would work otherwise.

My son became a space "expert" after his 3rd grade class studied the solar system. We've hung his moon in his room and he uses it every night. The CD is informative and well-paced for younger kids. The information is kid-friendly and helpful for learning about space and the moon. We ended up buying on for our niece, too! The Moon in My Room would work well in a classroom, as well (I'm a teacher, too). Highly, highly recommended!

I bought this for my niece and was very impressed at how good it looked when on. First of all it appears to use white LEDs for illumination (and lots of them too). This gives it a very realistic moon light color. The details of the moon come to life when the item is lit and the room is darkened. It looks very convincing. The remote is very easy to use and usefull too. This may be a child's toy but it looks good enought to put anywhere. I'm going to buy one for myself.

Not the typical gift one would expect for their two year old, however, our little guy loves the moon and stars, so we couldn't resist. Its a great addition to his bedroom wall (well out of reach). It gives off a soft glow at night and can be programmed to turn off after 30 minutes. There is also a way to program it to turn on when the room gets dark, but we are avoiding this. For anyone interested in the phases of the moon, astronomy, etc, it is a fun gift.

We bought Uncle Milton Moon in My Room for our son's room. It is a wonderful addition to his "space room" and we like that it has a timer on it, so he can have it on before he goes to sleep.
