Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Adventure Projector Review

Officially licensed by LucasFilm: Indiana Jones(tm) Crystal Skull Adventure Projector, #14005, by Uncle Milton.

Yes, that would be the Uncle Milton of ant farm fame. I wonder what an "Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" ant farm would be like? ;-)

Hard translucent blue plastic skull measures 9-1/2 inches long, 4-1/2 inches high, 4 inches wide. Battery-operated light mechanism (3 "C" batteries) creates a surprisingly bright beam.

Box art includes full LucasFilm Ltd. markings in addition to the Uncle Milton logo. The base of the skull also bears both LFL and Uncle Milton trademark and copyright information.

The lower jaw is hinged and movable.

Set includes Skull Projector, set of 3 8-frame cardboard transparency strips, and an audio CD featuring narration to accompany the slides. The slide transparencies appear to be 16mm size film stills. Batteries not included.

As I said above, the light is surprisingly bright, in that, for example, if you point it straight at your eye (not recommended), you'll wish you hadn't. Once the slide strips are inserted, however, unless the room is absolutely pitch dark, you won't be able to see much. Even the slightest amount of ambient light washes out the images, most of which consist of scenes from the various "Indiana Jones" franchise films. Additionally, the images are small. While the 16mm film frames could, in theory, be projected quite large with a high level of detail, the fixed-focus lens on this projector, in addition to the limited brightness, require keeping the projector quite close to the screen or wall, resulting in a small image, perhaps little more than 12-inches (30 cm) in height.

An included audio CD, meant to synchronize with the slides, features a narration by a Harrison Ford sound-alike actor, who does quite a good job. I have listened to the CD in my car stereo a few times; it's rather entertaining on its own, without the slides. Slide transitions are signaled by a whip-crack sound effect; changing the slide strips is indicated by an airplane engine sound.

I suspect most kids would grow tired of watching the 24 small, dim slides rather quickly; but the skull itself is pretty cool. I actually removed the projector mechanism from the projector skull I purchased and installed a low-wattage light bulb, creating a spooky glowing Crystal Skull night light. The surprising amount of detail molded into the projector makes this a great crystal skull prop (about 1/2 scale, I would estimate, compared to the on-screen skull) for Indy film fans.

Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Adventure Projector Feature

    • What secrets are in this skull? Project another time and another place on your walls!
    • Includes loads of photos!
Dare you unlock the mystery of the crystal skull?
  • This nifty projector includes several slides, just like the ones Indiana Jones shows his students!
  • This projector includes an audio track, so you can hear about all sorts of famous discoveries.
  • Includes a base, a projector, a booklet, slides, and an audio CD.

Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Adventure Projector Overview

Join the class as Professor Jones leads you on a tour of famous archeological discoveries. Turn off the lights and this Crystal Skull shares its secrets with you as images beam from its glowing eye. As the images are projected, students will be led through a fascinating audio tour. Includes skill projector plus audio CD with five slides and five images. Projector requires three "C" batteries, not included.

Not all that it is cracked up to be. - Jennifer Floyd -
Aquasaurs are very peculiar, finicky creatures. The instructions are very specific and if they are not followed exactly, they will not hatch. I'm sure they are cool when they do. You have to use distilled/deionized water. You cannot use treated water like you do for a fish tank. You have to keep the water temperature between 72 - 80 degrees. (Which in the winter is hard to do & it doesn't come with a light.) A lamp is recommended to keep the tank warm, but CFL's do not give off heat, so you have to make sure and get incandesant light bulbs. I did the first 1/2 of the eggs and 1 baby was found, but he didn't survive. I tried the 2nd half and not a single one hatched. Honestly, my boys had more fun watching the sea monkeys, which are cheaper, faster, easier and definately more hearty.

Very Disappointed - P. Santos - Stockbridge, MA
This was a gift for my 5 1/2 year old son. In addition to purchsing the item itself, we needed to buy special spring water as well as a heater in order to maintain the water temperature. After securing those two items we put the eggs in and have never had a sinle one hatch. We cleaned it out and started over again and still no fish. Biggest waste of money not to say very very disappointing for my son!

my daughter LOVED IT and so did I - Gardenut - Cincinnati, Ohio
The delux Aquasaurus is more sturdy than the other option and the little creatures are so interesting. My daughter loved it and so did the adults. It is a great educational toy and I would suggest it to anyone.

Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden Review

My five-year-old was learning about the butterfly's life cycle at school and I thought getting this live butterfly garden would be a great idea, and it was! We bought one through Amazon and another off a different site with the same wonderful results. Like many other reviewers have mentioned, it's preferable that one waits until spring to order this as firstly, the larvae will not travel well in the cold weather, and secondly, releasing butterflies into the frigid cold would be a cruel thing to do. Also, the kit does NOT come with the larvae - you need to mail in the voucher that comes with the kit together with a minimal processing fee of three dollars and the company will send the larvae and food. We received five larvae in their own little container and food. All five turned into butterflies - and watching the entire process/life cycle is a wondrous experience indeed! My daughter was amazed at how the caterpillars turned into chrysalis and finally transformed into butterflies - the expression on her face alone was worth the entire experiment. The butterflies are the painted lady variety and are beautiful to behold - we released them after a few days. This is a wonderful learning and observational tool which will encourage children's interest in science and to appreciate the beauty of nature. Highly recommended!

Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden Feature

  • See butterfly metamorphosis up close.Reusable, collapsible habitat.
  • Includes feeder.Complete instructions included.
  • Includes mail-in voucher for five butterfly larvae and special food. (.00 fee for processing)
  • Witness one of nature's most spectacular transformations up close.
  • Just mail in the included coupon for larvae and food.

Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden Overview

Witness one of nature's most spectacular transformations up close with this reusable, collapsible habitat. Fine, transparent mesh lets you see butterfly metamorphosis up close. Product includes easy-to-use feeder and complete instructions for habitat. Butterfly larvae with food shipped directly to your home. The habitat collapses for storage when not in use. You can adopt and raise a handful of caterpillars, watch them transform into painted lady butterflies, then lift the garden cover to release your beautiful specimens into the wild. This exciting habitat makes a fabulous introduction to the miracles of nature. The larvae and food available round the year.

Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden Specifications

Did you know that painted ladies (the butterflies, that is) taste with their feet and have 10,000 eyes? You and your kids will be fascinated by all you learn about these beautiful creatures with the Butterfly Garden from Insect Lore. The kit comes with a relatively easy-to-assemble observation chamber; supplies for feeding the butterflies (you provide only sugar and water); an informative booklet of clear instructions and butterfly facts; and a certificate for three to five free painted lady caterpillars. The metamorphosis from larva to butterfly takes about three weeks from when you receive the caterpillar larvae (which arrive in a small container with all the nutrients they need). Your children can watch the larvae increase dramatically in size, form chrysalides, and finally emerge into full-fledged painted ladies (it's suggested that they release the butterflies after a few days of observation). This would make a wonderful activity for families with kids of any age, but younger children will need help assembling the observation chamber and reading the instruction booklet. (Note: The manufacturer recommends that butterflies should not be set free in temperatures lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit.) --Rachel Radway

AWESOME! - J. Fish - Fort Wayne, IN
I got this for my then 5 year old daughter. She took it into school as her "show and tell" each week and the kids got to witness a couple of the butterflies hatch. She's never been so excited about a present in her life. She wants another kit for her birthday this year. We'll definitely be doing this again. Great experience and hands on learning.

Great for tweens - Anna West - Whitesville, WV United States
i bought this for my 9 yr old niece for her birthday. She was so thrilled with it. Very educational and entertaining!

Great Product - this is my second one - Karlo & Lena's mom - Evanston, IL
I bought this 3 or 4 years ago for my son. Sent away for the caterpillars and had two delighted kids watching the whole process happen. Each summer this has also been our lightening bug container each night in June and July. We've caught local caterpillars and had varying degrees of success having them turn to butterflies or moths.

My son's preschool and kindergarten class have also borrowed it for a month at a time when they were doing butterfly projects.

So it wore out. Hence we are happily buying another one and will start over with sending away for caterpillars this spring and I'm sure it will house many more creepy crawlies to come.

It is easy to store (folds down and velcro holds together). The zipper is easy to use (both my son and daughter could manage it at 3 1/2. It is way more humane than the plastic bug holders with a magnifying glass because air circulates and temperature is less likely to get hot.

We highly recommend.

Uncle Milton Solar System In My Room Review

The batteries last a long time (if you don't use it too much)

Due to the way the planets are made, they are more realistic-looking than other models (plastic printed planet details are shrink-wrapped over plastic balls)

Model is not to scale (but making them to scale would be very difficult). I wish the wires that the planets were on were a little longer so the planets would be a bit further apart (but we may be able to buy some longer wires and retrofit them).

My 5 year old daughter got this for Christmas and she loves it. She turns it on before bed and enjoys watching the planets go around. It is not too loud.

Uncle Milton Solar System In My Room Feature

  • Full color detailed planets
  • Planets orbit the light-up sun
  • 15 minute audio CD provides a guided tour through the solar system
  • IR remote control with built-in light pointer
  • Auto shut-off

Uncle Milton Solar System In My Room Overview

Give your kids the moon and stars! This intriguing mobile features nine rotating planets and a sun that lights up. Introduce aspiring scientists to the galaxy with 15-minute audio CD that provides a guided tour through the solar system.

Comes with auto shut-off after 15 minutes of operation, IR remote control with built-in light pointer and glow-in-the-dark star stickers. Requires 4 "C" and 2 "AA" batteries (not included). Measures 20" diameter.

Planets are great - Rainhater - Seattle, WA
My grandson who is just turning 6 loves his planets. He has not complained about the sound and I was worried about the quality when I ordered it but I am satisfied with this.

Flimsy and loud - A. S. K. - Portland, OR
My daughter is 4 and really into the solar system, she knows all the planets and this was a gift that we were excited about at first. I have to say that after much anticipation, we were very disappointed. First of all when you put it together is seems really flimsy, like the planets will break the wires they are hung on. Then you put it up and turn it on, the sun is dim and the motor that turns the planets is really loud. And when the planets turn, sometimes they get hung up on one another. The audio CD that comes with it is kind of cool, but overall, this get a thumbs down from this family.

Kids room - C. Hansen - Littleton, CO USA
My grandson is a Stars Wars fan and this was purchased to complete his room. He loves it and likes that it revolves. It has been educational as well.

Uncle Milton Star Theater Pro Review

Bought this for my 5 year old son who is obsessed with all things related to space and wants to be an astronaut when he grows up. He loves it!
The package comes with two image disks. One is a star field (perhaps the Milky way?). The other contains a picture of the sun, moon, and the Earth (each body appears to be of roughly of the same size, so not shown in strict natural proportion or perspective). The company also sells directly a set of two more disks for about .
The projection globe has buttons that allow you to set up the images to rotate very slowly (we always have that on) as well as options to shut off automatically after 30 or 60 minutes (careful about using these. The second night I used the 60 minute shutoff and my son started crying that it stopped working exactly 60 minutes later!).
One thing to be aware is that despite the packaging, this is really a slide projector. This means that if it is not aimed straight at the projection surface and properly focused, the images will appear distorted and/or blurry. Before buying consider where you would be placing it. I try to place the projector pointing straight up to the ceiling on top of a box. My wife is not bothered by the distorted image so much, and places it on dresser, angled to point above my son's bed.

Uncle Milton Star Theater Pro Feature

  • Two interchangeable image disks
  • Motorized rotation of star fields
  • A/C adapter included
  • Displays up to 10,000 stars on walls and ceiling for the home
  • Planetarium sound track included

THIS SUCKS - Adam C. Harris - NC USA
So after a three time use the 7.00 "toy" doesn't work. Not turning on real cool. Comes with two disks with a bad star display and a cheap earth sun and moon display and a cd with 14 minutes of music, nothing educational about this "toy" nothing worth the money seeing as it doesn't work. If this review would have let me put no stars then it would have five less than what I gave it.

star theater pro - Tyler B. Fountain - Ft. Bragg, NC.
My daughter likes this toy but wishes they could have added more slides of planets or other astronomical bodies. Have only had the star pro for about 2 months and there have been no problems with it thus far.

Shhh, my 15 year old daughter did not want it - but we use it! - Andre Choquette - Vancouver BC Canada
Yes it is technically a toy, but we use this with the Moon in My Room for our bedroom Moon In My Room. Yes we are adults, yes we are married (9 years) and yes this is great for creating a calming, romantic environment...

Bought it originally when we re-did my 15 year old daughters room, but she is too old for it to be cool, so it was by accident that I set them up - not sending them back!!!

National Geographic 3-D Projector-Sea Monsters! Review

We bought this for our daughter and just like the other reviewers here we (parents) were disappointed by the negligible 3D effect but our daughter (6) seemed unconcerned and was excited by the projector and the overall bedroom ceiling experience. I have now solved the 3D problem by finding other magenta/cyan glasses because the problem was with the magenta filter being waaaay too dark. We used a pair from a Harkins (movie) Theaters 3D kids snack-pack carton but I am sure any other 3D glasses would work just as well. Even if you cut out the magenta film and replaced it with a suitable candy wrapper, or clear film colored with a permanent 'red' broad-nib marker.

I'd love to find another set of images. I see that there is an identical unit under another brand which is marketed as a space exploration set, but I don't want another projector, just the slides.

BTW, I am very impressed by the quality of the projector's optics for <. Very crisp and corner-to-corner in focus.

National Geographic 3-D Projector-Sea Monsters! Feature

  • Includes: 2 pair of 3-D Real Glasses, 1 3-D Real projection system, 25 full color 3-D images, 1 CD audio tour, 1 Set of instructions
  • Easy touch slide advancement system
  • Adjustable projection angles and focus dial for crisp viewing
  • Awe-inspiring creatures from the film Sea Monsters: A prehistoric Adventure
  • Requires 3 C batteries (not included) - Requires one 3.6V and 8.5 mA krypton bulb, included.

If you can overlook the 3-D promise, it's a great toy - C. Levy -
For .99 I wasn't expecting anything that great. Let's be honest here. So yes, though I was disappointed that there was no real 3-D effect, that wasn't a big deal at all. Would have been nice and very cool, but I wasn't surprised. That is the only thing that gives this a low grade. The other bad thing is that there aren't other slide packets that I can find -- HOWEVER once my son and I huddled in the dark walk-in closet (we couldn't wait until night-time and that was the darkest place) we popped in the CD and started the slide show. It was FUN! My son feels like he owns his own theater and he watched it about 4 more times that day. It has a very "planetarium"-like feel to the tour. The audio makes it all feel very professional and impressive. And every time he has friends over they huddle in the big closet watching the show. NOT ONE complains that they can't see the 3-D effects. If they would make OTHER slide/CD "refills" (you know what I mean) WITHOUT the 3-D effect, they would sell more of these and I would buy a few more, I promise!

So what if it isn't IMAX? - Julianna McDuffie - San Marcos, CA
I've just finished watching this with my extremely gifted 6 year-old who got this as a birthday present... We were lying on the floor of his room, watching the images on the ceiling and giggling together having some really nice quality time. I don't know what people expect for a projection image - I certainly wasn't thinking that this would be some hi-res, fine optical quality presentation. The narration on the CD was nice (although I will say that it could have gone a little faster), and we had a great time together. What more could you ask for? Afterward, only jumped online to find more presentation slides... but then I saw the bad reviews and felt that I ought to jump in with a different viewpoint.

Where is the 3-D? - An Amazon Fan - WV USA
I agree with the other reviewers. I could hardly see any 3-D effect. I read the instructions carefully and followed every step, but still I don't get the point - wearing the glasses only makes the images harder to see, not to mention any stunning 3-D effects. I'm so disappointed and will try to return it.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Railway Set Review

I purchased Melissa and Doug Deluxe Wooden Railway set for my grandson Teddy for Christmas. We opened my gifts to the grandchildren at my house after church on Christmas eve. Teddy is not two yet. He absolutely loves his train set. When they got ready to go home they boxed the train set and put it in their living room across from the tree. When my son heard Teddy saying very quietly " Daddy, please help me, Daddy come? My son Daniel, thought his son was awake and in the new Christmas presents, as it was only 6:00 am. Daniel went to their living room and found teddy lying on top of the Train set box. He look up and said, Daddy, my train-- I need my train. He had not even noticed the new presents under the tree. It was his train set he wanted. So, before the others were up, Teddy and Daniel put the train tracks, bridge and the rest of the set together. There they were, both smiling and playing with the train when Sarah, Daniels wife and Grace, their daughter got up. The train engine went to the table for Christmas Breakfast. What a wonderful Christmas morning for the entire family. What joy this brought me, Teddy and Grace's Grandmother.l

Durable Solid-Wood Construction for Years of Use
With the exception of the durable plastic uprights on the suspension bridge, the plastic wheels and steel rivets on the trains and truck, and the small, steel screws that hold many of the accessories together, the Wooden Railway Set is made entirely of solid wood that will last. Every track piece and accessory is sanded to a smooth finish, and when screws are used, they are set below the surface of the wood, providing a smooth surface for little hands.

The track pieces snap snugly and easily into one another with no excessive force or tools required. With over 100 track pieces and bridge supports to work with, the biggest challenge for your child will be to keep all the pieces organized during their building process.

One piece of advice for parents: add the Melissa & Doug Multi-Activity Table, so your child can easily build out the set and you can keep the pieces contained.

Freight Train, Passenger Train and Flatbed Truck
The Wooden Railway Set includes a six-piece freight train with cargo, a four-piece passenger train, and a three-piece flatbed truck with cargo. The trains and the truck each feature durable plastic wheels held to the bodies with smooth, steel rivets.

The flatbed truck allows your child to replicate the real-world transfer of cargo from the train to the truck, and then on to the neighborhood stores for the final delivery. The set also includes train engineers who can help direct traffic as the trains come in and out of the station.

Several Accessories for Added Fun
To load cargo on and off the trains, the set includes two magnetized crane assemblies -- a tower frame and an A-frame -- that each feature a lever for raising and lowering the cargo. It also includes a suspension bridge, trestle bridge, a five-way switch, and a roundhouse engine shed where the engines can park when not in use. Several trees and road signs are also included.

Old-Fashioned, Energy-Free Fun
With no electrical parts, flashing lights, or battery-operated motors, the Wooden Railway Set is designed to offer your child imaginative playtime. The tracks and trains are designed to be compatible with most popular wooden tracks, so you may be able mix and match with pieces of other sets you may already have.

With the included easy-to-follow visual instructions, the set can be built out in numerous ways, giving children hours of immersive play time as they build the perfect configuration.

What's in the Box
Six-piece freight train; four-piece passenger train; three-piece flatbed truck; over 100 solid-wood track pieces; engine shed; five-way switch; suspension bridge; trestle bridge; A-frame and tower-frame crane assemblies; railroad workers; traffic signs; trees; and visual instructions for layout options.

Best Train Set... EVER! - Bradley L. Johnson - Seattle, WA USA
This train set comes with everything you could possibly want in a set and is even compatible with the more expensive trains on the market. We also bought some SureTrack pieces through Amazon to help keep the tracks together despite our toddler sons rough play. It's worked fantastic and after a year the set still looks like new and still provides hours of enjoyment every week for our son and his playmates.

Poor quality on the trains - N. Sanders - Nashville, TN USA
The tracks are fine and work well with the real (but overpriced) Thomas trains. The trains that come with this set are poorly made and do not roll well and cannot go around the curves in the track without the wheels coming out of the tracks. I consider the trains/cars largly useless. Perhaps I should write M/D to see if I simply have a defective set.

The problem is that Melissa/Doug used rivets on the wheels and the rivets are too tight and do not allow the wheels to slip sideways. The real Thomas trains are not riveted and they have a sideways slip of a few millimeters that allow the trains to go around the curves with the wheels staying in the track.

I do not recommend this product.

Excellent Train Set - A. Mutha -
This set was everything I had hoped for! I did not want a battery-operated train set as my personal experience is that kids do not get actively involved in the whole exercise of setting up the tracks and then traversing it using toy train! This train set not only excites them but also can be used to introduce them to different railway concepts.

My son was glowing with excitement when I unpacked it. Though he is little too small for this toy he still learnt and managed to not unhook the tracks accidentally in excitement..

Great educational toy!

Great entertainment for children. - D. Cobourn - Newark, DE
Great entertainment for my granddaughter. She loves this train set and it will last forever. Quality toy. I highly recommend it for all kids.

When you're an artist or inventor, ideas are your greatest assets. When you realized your plush toy could be a successful product, maybe even a blockbuster, you probably began to worry that someone else-your cousin Bob, that guy in your carpool, some stranger looking over your shoulder at the coffee shop-might steal it and get it to market first. Now that you're entering the design and fabrication process, you need assurance that your idea is protected. This is the purpose of copyright.

What is Copyright Law?

The US Constitution gives Congress the right to "promote the Progress of Science and Useful Arts, by securing for limited times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries [sic]". Copyright law protects the intellectual property rights of artists, writers, musicians, inventors, and others from infringement. Because you are the inventor of your plush toy, you alone have the right to produce, sell, and display it (or variations), and to transfer ownership of that right.

Copyright law specifies the idea must be in "fixed form": that is, written, sketched, or constructed in some way. As soon as you wrote down your idea for a plush toy, or made those first drawings, you owned the copyright for that toy, even though it had not yet been manufactured. If another partner contributed to the toy, you are joint copyright holders. Current law grants copyright for the creator's lifetime, plus 70 years; it is treated as personal property in your will.

Your work is copyrighted as soon as you "fix" it by writing, sketching, or constructing it. Until it is published, you don't have to register it. A registered copyright, however, is important should you bring suit against someone for infringement. If you obtain your registration before or within five years of your plush toy's creation, registration will provide prima facie (authentic) evidence in court. If you register your material within three months after it is published (or manufactured), you can collect statutory damages and attorney fees in an infringement suit; otherwise, you can only receive actual damages and profits.

Record your copyright by filling out the appropriate form (available online), paying the non-refundable filing fee, and, in some cases, sending a "deposit," or copy of your material. In the case of a plush toy, the copyright office and the Library of Congress do not require the deposit. Your copyright is valid as soon as your application and fee are received; your certificate arrives by USPS. You do not need a lawyer, and the filing fee is affordable. The so-called "poor man's copyright," or mailing yourself a copy of your material, does not legally replace registration.

How Your Toy Manufacturer Can Help

Your toy manufacturer has plenty of experience in helping its clients obtain copyright protection for their plush toys. You will be provided with copies of designs and documentation of your toy's progress. If you purchase the Ultimate Design package, we will help with your copyright application. It's your great idea! Protect your plush toy with a registered copyright!

Children are always curious. Take advantage of this curiosity to broaden their minds and let them explore nature and the world around them from a different perspective - through the lens of the microscope. Get them student's microscopes in Toronto, where microscopes of various types and makes are available.

Why a Student's Microscope for Your Kids?

A child's curiosity has to be sated or this hunger to know and appreciate the things around him can be stifled. A child's curiosity can lead him to wonder about the four Ws and one H - what, when, where, who, and how. If this curiosity is guided towards the discovery of nature, take them outdoors instead of pampering them with video games. The outdoors is a vast learning place; flowers, trees, and bugs are delightful specimens and much more if these are viewed from a student's microscope.

Reliable student's microscopes in Toronto beat a toy microscope but the latter would be fine to start young children on microscopy examination of their 'finds.' When they are a wee bit older and "wizened" in the art of microscopy, step up their interest with an honest-to-goodness microscope that raises magnification levels to new highs. Although a student's microscope is not a high powered instrument, it is a powerful tool that would open the children's eyes to nature.

Student's microscopes in Toronto schools and elsewhere are not the average high-powered microscopes used in professional and research laboratories. But these are great teaching tools. The microscope has dual focusing and offers fine focus. Slide a strand of cotton thread and let the kids see how the thread looks like when viewed under the microscope.

Explaining that the thread comes from the cotton plant and expounding the many uses of cotton furthers their understanding of plants and their importance in everyday life. The discovery leads to more interesting discoveries, which would later help them appreciate their biology lessons. One small microscope and it's a big leap towards your children's academic development and will shape their attitude towards the world around them.

You can rely on the student's microscopes in Toronto stores for durability and accuracy. This type of microscope has a built-in light, a top requirement when choosing a student's microscope. It is also easy to use because there is no need to complicate things. The point is arousing children's curiosity -- how plants and bugs look like when magnified 40x their actual size; you are not expounding cell division or molecular biology, though this will come later on.

Shopping for Student's Microscope

Price is not the sole factor when shopping for student's microscopes. Although this is cheaper than most microscopes, you can still find better deals because student's microscopes in Toronto are reasonably priced though high-end student's microscopes are available too for school labs.

If your purchase is intended or school use dealers of student's microscopes in Toronto provide hefty discounts for bulk purchases. For this school labs, the type of student's microscope will have higher magnification and can see through layers of the specimen.

Several brands of student's microscopes and educational microscopes are available. Many of these are imported from Germany, China, and other countries; all these brands follow strict standards for microscopy manufacture and come with a warranty. Should your microscope need professional repair, you can have it repaired or replace parts. For your children, the cheaper student's microscope will do and there's no time like now to start them the study of nature.

Building a rocket is one of the best science fair project ideas - especially for students interested in physics and flight. If this is one of the science fair project ideas that interests you, read on to learn exactly how to complete this project.

Remember: in order to complete the science fair rocket project, you will need to have safety equipment on hand, such as goggles. This is also one of those science fair project ideas that might be best performed with adult supervision. Safety first

Objective
The objective of the rocket is to determine what rocket design changes actually change the speed and projection of the rocket itself.

Introduction
Many children have played with model rockets. After all, they are loud, fast, and provide an excellent way to learn about physics. This particular science experiment will help you build your own rocket that will travel up to hundreds of feet in the air. Many real rockets can travel for thousands of feet into the air. From this experiment, you'll also learn about aerodynamics and safety when working with rockets.

Terms and Concepts You'll Need to Know
When you work on this model rocket, you'll need to know about the four forces that impact flight. They are weight, thrust, drag, and lift. You'll also need to know the equation for drag. This experiment will also help you to learn about how to stabilize a rocket by using center of gravity and center of pressure.

Materials You Will Need
You will need to buy a model rocket and related components for the rocket. You should be able to find a model rocket between $50 and $100 online or through a local toy store. Make sure the rocket you purchase is reusable!

Procedure Tips
In order to perform this procedure, you'll be testing the rocket based on variables that you choose, such as flight duration, distance, and more. You can choose your own variables. This is one of the cool science fair project ideas because you are able to customize the project for your own needs and interest. For example, if you are interested in what will happen to the launch of your rocket if you remove a propeller or modify the tip of the rocket, you can experiment.

Here are some specific tips for you, no matter what variations you use.

Plan several launches for each variable. In order to complete this experiment, you'll need to perform the rocket launch several times. Each rocket launch will measure a different variable. For all rocket launches, you should use the same engine (or an identical engine) to ensure that the launch is the same as the others. It may also be best to take an average of three flights per each different variable that you measure in order to ensure that your reading is as accurate as possible.

Use trackers to measure altitude. Unless you are able to get on top of a very high building or latter, it can be difficult to measure the altitude of your rocket. However, by using trackers on taller items, such as trees, you may be able to get a close estimate. Look for rockets that have radio attachments on them (as long as they are within your budget).

Consider wind and thermal lift conditions when measuring flight duration. If you are measuring flight duration as one of your variables, be sure that you consider environmental conditions as well as conditions directly related to your experiment.

Only change one variable per flight. By changing only one variable, it will be easier to measure how those variables actually impacted the flight of your rocket.

Remember: this is one of the science fair project ideas that I like the most because it is fun to build and execute. Safety should always come first. It might also be good to have a back-up rocket in case your rocket gets lost or damaged during the experiment. Most of all - have fun!

If you're ready to get going with your own rocket project, your next step is to download a free copy of "Easy Steps to Award-Winning Science Fair Projects" from the link below right now."

Twister Review

We purchased Twister to entertain about 15 children at our son's seventh birthday party. We set up a game table with four other games - Perfection, Operation, Wild Planet Hyper Dash and iPlay Wok and Roll (I recommend you check out my Amazon reviews on these other games, too).

Behind the game table, we placed Twister on a wide area of carpeted floor. The only rule we established was that the kids had to take their shoes off to play. We did not hover over the group or explain the rules. One boy picked up the spinner board and gave it a twirl. He announced "left hand green" and the game began. Over the next two hours, the kids (3-to-8-years old) played all of the games, coming back to Twister to play in pairs, small groups or groups of only boys or girls.

Of all the games we placed out for the birthday party, Twister and Wild Planet Hyper Dash allowed the children to release their energy the most (that was handy after we served birthday cake). Keep that in mind as you look for indoor games to get you through the winter.

In summary, Twister consists of only a vinyl sheet and a spinner board, so you might think the game is too simple to entertain kids. However, that was not our experience. The children loved to tie themselves up in knots. Rating: Five stars.

Twister Feature

  • Uproarious classic game of physical skill
  • A spinner tells players where on the mat to place their hand or foot
  • Develops skills in balance, coordination, and color identification
  • Twister is the game that ties you up in knots. Spin the dial and move a hand or foot to the colored circle on the floor mat.
  • Players become increasingly entangled, until someone (or everyone) finally topples, and is eliminated. The last person standing or crouching wins.

Twister Overview

Twister is the game that ties you up in knots. Spin the dial and move a hand or foot to the colored circle on the floor mat. Can you get there' dont touch the mat with anything but a hand or foot. It is for 2 or 4 players. It includes a spinner, a mat and instructions. Instructions are available in English and Spanish.

Twister Specifications

Over forty years old and going strong! Soon after its release in 1966, Twister was made instantly popular when Johnny Carson and Eva Gabor played it on The Tonight Show. Such a simple concept, with so much potential for hilarity. The game includes a plastic mat with red, blue, yellow, and green spots; a spinner; and instructions. To play (as if you didn’t already know…), two to four players face each other, with the plastic mat in the center. A referee spins the spinner, then calls out the body part and the color the arrow points to ("Left foot, blue," "Right hand, yellow"). All players, at the same time, follow the directions, placing the appropriate body part on a vacant circle. Players become increasingly entangled, until someone (or everyone) finally topples, and is eliminated. The last person standing—er, crouching—wins. If this doesn’t bring families and friends (and celebrities) closer together, we don’t know what does! Out-and-out fun. --Emilie Coulter

I got the original Twister for my 12th birthday (or thereabouts). I am 23 years old and up to last weekend I've played it. Twister is another timeless game that can be enjoyed by persons of about 5 years old and up. I'll give you one important piece of advice: the younger you are, the easier it is to bend!

Customer Reviews : Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether

Don't let the price deter you!, October 11, 2008

By L. Cabrera (Bellingham, WA USA) -
My 5 month old daughter LOVES her Sophie the Giraffe toy! This toy is absolutely wonderful in every way. Sophie is made of soft rubber and makes a pleasant-sounding squeak whenever any part of her body is squeezed, so even a young baby can elicit a reaction from the toy with minimal effort.

I don't know what it is about Sophie, but whenever my daughter plays with her, she gets very vocal and talkative.

I saw another review which referred to this toy as "a glorified dog toy". That reviewer is mistaken, and simply doesn't realize the value of this toy.

- Sophie's body, while soft, has several areas of thicker rubber (the nubs on her head, her ears, and her feet) which are perfect for teething babies to gnaw on for relief.
- Sophie's contrasting colors (spots) are visually stimulating to a baby.
- She is easy to grip given her long, thin neck.
- This toy is made of 100% natural rubber and uses food-grade paint (SAFE!).
- This is a quality baby toy which will last for many years.

I would much rather pay $20 for a safe, engaging toy for my baby, than pay $5 for some piece of junk with lead paint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sophie the endearing rubber friend, February 26, 2009
By Lemur Nimbley "I like apples" (Miami, FL)
My four month old baby loves this giraffe! I tried other teethers that were more standard, and he couldn't stand them. Ring teethers were too huge in all areas to get into his mouth at all, and the plastic was too hard and brittle and seemed to cause him pain.

This Sophie teether is completely different. Some reviewers compared it to a dog toy, and I guess in some ways it's similar, but the rubber is a much finer grade and so much softer than any dog toy I've ever witnessed. It has a pleasant scent and taste as well. It's easy for my son to hold on to and he seems to like looking at it and "coos" to it.

Another reviewer called it a gagging hazard. It's no more a gagging hazard than your child's own fingers. As with any toy, your children should be supervised at play, but I think it's impossible for your child to choke on the Sophie teether. It's large and durable. My son has been using his Sophie for weeks without incident. They've been making Sophie giraffes for generations, the brand has stood the test of time.

Beautifully painted with natural food paint, this toy evokes a feeling of nostalgia, it will make for an adorable keepsake long after your baby outgrows it. Worth the cost; throw away a few bucks on something your child will not use, or spend just a few dollars more for this cherishable giraffe. I intend to purchase more items from Vulli. My baby's gums are soothed and his smile is super happy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Best Baby Toy Ever!, March 22, 2008
By Jennie M. Tracy "domestic goddess"(WA USA) - (REAL NAME)
We love, love, love Sophie. My son is four months old and I wish I'd had this for my other children. She isn't hard plastic like other baby toys, or fabric. He never took to those. The minute I gave him his giraffe, she was in his mouth. She really is just perfect - soft, chewable rubber with a nice little squeek. This will be my baby shower gift of choice from now on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best teething toy, January 22, 2009
By S. Hill "ssh-nyc" (New York, NY United States) (REAL NAME)
Sophie is a great teether. Her head squeaks when chewed, which is apparently very satisfying, and she has a second squeaker in her tummy. Her legs are the perfect length/size for those "hard to reach spots" on the side gums. My 12 month old little boy has loved Sophie since he was about 5 months old. He doesn't like most teething toys, but he wants her! In fact, we have 2. One lives in his crib, and the other moves around our house. Sophie is very sturdy, so I don't worry about him biting anything off. And she is BPA free, which is comforting. I also like that Sophie has been made exactly the same for generations in France. She has stood the test of time- she is a classic. I can't recommend this toy enough!

My 8 month old has had Sophie for about 3 months now (his first teeth cut through at 4 months); he loves it and it's easy for him to hold. He gets very excited about the squeaky noise he can create himself. For me, it's great piece of mind knowing that it's BPA and PVC-free. I also like that IT'S NOT MADE IN CHINA!!! I'm so tired of teething rings with painted crap on them that I know is going into my child's system. Some other reviewers have negatively commented on the toy's appearance. If you are purchasing this because it is BPA and PVC-free, I find it odd that aesthetics would be so fundamentally important in the 'teething toy category'. We love Sophie so much that we actually purchased some other teethers/toys from the same company and I plan to purchase more as gifts. I really wish I had known about Sophie (and similar products) with my first child.
This toy is definitely pricey, but I find that we take much better care of it and also pay more attention to her whereabouts so as to not lose her. My toddler always asks if we have Sophie for his brother prior to leaving the house; it's like she's part of the family now :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly enough, it actually works, January 20, 2010

Ok, to be honest I thought I had lost my mind to order this. I mean, really, isn't it just a teether. I was convinced by the lack of chemicals (BPA-free) . . . especially for something I KNOW the baby will be chewing on.

What I did not expect was it to get rave reviews in my house already. I am currently pregnant and got it for the baby. However, my 2 year old happens to think it is the best thing ever. I have no idea why. Taste?? Texture?? Smell?? I do not know, but he is just entranced with it at 2??

Needless to say, I now have 2 $25 teethers and am happy with both of them. It really is a toy that your baby will love. I have no idea why, but as long as it can entertain and soothe, I am not going to question it. I have already sent 1 to a friend as well (which I guess makes 3 orders), because it really is THAT good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic baby toy!, February 12, 2009

We purchased this for our baby girl, for her 1st Christmas (2008). What a hit! She instantly loved Sophie the giraffe and we don't leave home without it. It's completely safe for her to chew on and is well made. Both the neck area and body area have squeakers and we love that it's painted with food paint for safety. She loves to hold Sophie either by the neck or the legs. Either area is perfect for a baby's little hands and fingers. Our baby loves to bite Sophie's head and because it's 100% natural rubber, it must feel good on the gums. Sophie is very durable and has held up to multiple beatings (rough play) by our youngest son who is trying to entertain the baby. Sophie also washes very well with a little dish liquid and hot water. I use my index finger to cover the hole on the back while I wash it, so that water doesn't enter inside and create mildew. We all love this toy and I highly recommend it. This would make a fantastic baby gift for any baby.

Product Description

Amazon. com Review

The Settlers of Catan from Mayfair Games is an award-winning strategy game where players collect resources and use them to build roads, settlements and cities on their way to victory. The board itself is variable, making each game a little different from the next. Each round of The Settlers of Catan is intended to keep three or four players ages 10 and above engaged for up to 90 minutes.

On the Road to Settlement
The game rules and almanac booklet sets out four pages of guidelines for getting started. Don't worry, the rules are straightforward and the four pages include plenty of illustrations. There's a starting map that shows a well-balanced set-up for beginners to follow and directions that allow more advanced players to lay out the map of the island at random. You'll have to pop the die-cut components of the game out of their cardboard holders before you play your first game.
The almanac portion of the booklet is laid out alphabetically, so while playing you can find answers to specific questions quickly. Useful entries remind you exactly what role pieces like the robber play, how actions like maritime trade work, and how to set up the board or finish the game.

Exploring and Developing Catan
The board consists of 19 terrain hexes surrounded by the ocean. Each type of terrain produces a different type of resource: brick, wool, ore, grain or lumber. There's also a desert hex that produces no resources. As the game progresses, players use resources to build roads along the edges of these hexes and settlements or cities on the intersections where three hexes meet. Each player begins the game with two settlements and two roads.
Each player's roll of the dice causes certain hexes to produce resources, which you collect if you have a settlement on one of them. On your turn, you'll use various combinations of the resources you've acquired to build new roads and settlements, upgrade settlements to cities, or purchase development cards. The ability to trade resources with other players adds a new level of strategy and ensures that the game includes lots of interaction between players. You can also trade without worrying about other players using an unfavorable maritime trade rate. Elements including a robber piece that lets you steal from other players and a variety of development cards add intrigue to the game.
The objective of The Settlers of Catan is to be the first one who collects 10 victory points. Each settlement is worth one victory point and each city is worth two victory points. You can also earn victory points by holding the "Longest Road" card, the "Largest Army" card, or special victory point development cards.

Best-Selling Game of the Year
It's easy to see why The Settlers of Catan has been recognized as a best-selling Game of the Year in both Germany and the U. S. We found this game to be fun and engaging for both children and adults, and the variable nature of the playing field really made us want to play again and again. When we started pausing to contemplate our opponents' strategy and factoring the probability of different dice rolls into our moves, the game sometimes took longer than expected, but we were so engrossed we didn't even notice until it was all over.
Due to the widespread popularity of the original game, several expansion sets (sold separately) are available that allow you to explore new aspects of the game or add more players. The only downside to this game is that you need to have either three or four players to play, so it's great that expansion sets are available that will allow you to add players.

What's in the Box
Six sea frame pieces, 19 terrain hexes, nine harbor pieces, 18 circular number tokens, 126 game cards, 16 cities, 20 settlements, 60 roads, two dice, a robber and a rules and almanac booklet.

Product Description

One of the most successful games of all time, Settlers of Catan is a trading and building game set in the mythical world of Catan. Players roll dice to determine which resources are generated each round and then must strategically trade those resources with other players to get what they need to build their settlements, cities, and roads. With multiple ways to gain victory points and a board that changes in every play, Settlers of Catan is a game that can be played hundreds of different ways. The base of a hugely successful franchise, with multiple engaging expansions, Settlers is the core game of many collections, and is a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends. For 3 to 4 players.

Customer Reviews : The Settlers of Catan

Nice updates, January 5, 2008

By Howie (Arkansas)
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
The primary, and best, addition in this 4th edition of Settlers is a very nice interlocking border which is placed around the game tiles. This replaces the individual hex tiles of previous editions. No longer will your tiles/pieces scatter/split apart when someone accidentally bumps the playing surface! One side of the border has the ports "built in" but you still get a bit of randomness when assembling the pieces. The flip side of the border is blank "sea" on which you can put the included port tokens for a truly random placement.

The updated graphics are nice and colorful but take a bit of getting use to if you regularly play with an older edition.

The box has a vacu-formed type insert designed to hold all the pieces and keep everything neat.

All-in-all a nice upgrade to the 3rd edition.

It's a simple sounding premise: You gather resources in order to build roads and settlements to earn points.

However, there is a wonderful randomness which lends complexity to the game as the layout of the game board tiles differs with each play right down to the number on the dice needed to harvest a resource from a given tile. This makes *every* game unique. Strategy comes into play as you must determine the best location for your settlements and roads to get maximum value/points.

If you've never played Settlers, find someone who has a copy and give it a try. If no one you know owns a copy, go to your local comic shop. Odds are someone there will have a copy readily available and delight in teaching the game to a new player! It's easy to learn, difficult to master, and quick to play with a typical game lasting only an hour or less.
This is one of the truly classic games and belongs on the shelf of anyone who enjoys board gaming.

Stick with the 3rd Addition, September 5, 2008
By Robert Major "R. Major" (IA United States)
We are avid players of Settlers (and love it), but this newest addition has some flaws that make us wish we would have bought the 3rd addition. We have had the game for about 8 months, and the interlocking border (instead of the regular hexagon pieces in the 3rd addition) have never fit right. It takes three people to get everything into place, and even then the border warps and the pieces pop out. They interlock like a puzzle piece, and they are starting to wear out, so we have finally given up on getting everything together correctly. If you were worried about the 3rd addition getting bumped and jumbled, you simply had to set up the game on a tablecloth or piece of fabric. This newer addition is impossible to setup correctly, especially as it ages.

Also note you cannot use your old expansion packs with the newer addition, as the pieces are different. You now have to pay for all the newer versions of the expansion packs, how convenient.

We still love this game and will play it regularly, it just seems the "advancements" were not tested or well planned. It is also bothersome that they made the newer additions incompatible with the old expansions, you can easily spend $150 on this game and the expansions, and you would expect that investment to last... it is a board game after all!

Great Game for Everyone!,

Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
I was amazed I had never heard of this game until now. A friend of ours recommended it while visiting, so we ran out and purchased the game right away. That night we played until 1 AM in the morning. This game is fun!

The instruction book is rather large, but the gist of the game is on the first two pages. My 8-year old daughter picked up the game right away and now wants to play all the time. I really like the fact that the game play is different every time. It is definitely a strategy style game and take a few games under your belt to start developing your own strategies.

Our edition came with extra plastic bags for all the pieces. And everything fits nicely into the box. The game board, at first, fit very tight into the surrounding edges. I found that if I took some of the hex pieces and just rubbed the edges on the table to flatten out the nubs created when punching them out of the cardboard that it fit nicely into the surrounding pieces. You might want to do that too.

If you like playing games, this is a must. This is our new 'family game night' game to play. For two players, the game play lasts 30 minutes to an hour. You can figure that for every extra person play, it will add about 30 minutes or so to the game play.

You can't go wrong buying this game!
