Star Wars Science - Dagobah Frog Habitat Review

Call me a nerd but there is nothing cooler than seeing your pet frog hanging out with yoda in the swamps of Dagobah. The little hut provides a great place for the frog to chill out, we have small kids so the frog escapes to the hut when there is too much going on outside his tank. There is a good amount of dry and wet area and the frog seems very content. The graphics combined with the molded land, hut and Yoda figure really does look fantastic, making it the best looking critter tank I've ever seen.

Big drawback... on top of the expense of the habitat you still have to pay shipping for a tadpole... I was a bit outraged by this as it wasn't made clear in the product description. We decided to hit the local pet store instead as it was cheaper than paying the shipping.

Got this for my 5 yr old son for Easter. We went out and bought 2 tadpoles and food at a local pet shop. (Cost us for everything) We were able to immediately add the tadpoles to the habitat since we had room temp bottled water already in there. It is pretty easy to maintain the habitat. Clean the tank once a week, adding all new fresh room temp bottled water. The tadpoles seem pretty happy in there. My kids (ages 5 and 2) love watching them grow. One of our tadpoles is growing legs now. Very interesting! Very educational for my son. We love it!

It's really just a plastic box with graphics taped on and a couple tank decorations. You still have to go out and buy the tadpoles, or get your "free" ones from them, but you have to pay shipping that costs as much as buying them at a fish store; then you have to get information on how to care for them and feed them, since it isn't included. I was disappointed. I had purchased it for a gift, but when I saw what it was, I was embarrassed to give it as a gift and kept it for my grandson.

I gave three of these frog habitats with two live tadpoles per habitat as Christmas gifts this year. After reading the other reviews concerning the tadpoles not ever sprouting legs, I purchased my tadpoles from another internet site. The habitats are very sturdy and look exactly as advertised. They were a big hit for the three boys who's ages ranged from 7 to 28.

Uncle Miltons 3-D Journey under the Sea - Jennifer Lynn -
I already had the 3-D machine with the solar system slide show/CD in it and loved it. While some of the images were not totally wonderful, the idea was really cool and the CD tour was really educational for my students. However, the 3-D under the sea tour was very disappointing. The tour is not nearly as engaging and none of the pictures appeared to be 3-dimensional. I probably will use the CD and find my own pictures to project to go along with it.

Star Theater Review

For some time, I'd been hearing from friends that Star Theater was an excellent orientation to astronomy. I bought one and I am pleased to report that this product truly delivers. My kids were excited to learn about the night sky in the comfort of our family room (make sure the room is dark and wait for your eyes to adapt), and it kept Mom and Dad's interest as well. The audio tour is compelling and informative, the instruction booklet includes easy to understand explanations about astronomy, and the projector is simple to set up and use. The compass in the base is a nice touch. It allows us to project the night sky with the North Star to the North. A nice feature is the way you can set the sphere to project the sky as it appears on any given day of the year and even hour of the day. Also, it's fun to see all those stars glow on the sphere after you turn it off. Star Theater made us all want to go outside and look for constellations in the night sky (although it was cloudy outside for over a week!). I highly recommend this product as a gift for any budding astronomer!

Don't waste your money. - -
I bought this for my 2 daughters. I hoped that it would be fun and educational. The tape isn't bad, ( too bad they don't sell it seperately!). The projector itself was a terrible disappointment. My girls got frustrated and turned off by it's lack of clarity and it soon ended up in the closet with other unwanted toys.

I was so excited to finally recieve it in the mail. It was easy to set up but you have to hold down the button the whole time. The tape was education, but the projection was horrible. It casts a bunch of blury shadows of stars on a nearby wall. Even in the pitch dark you couldn't read the names of the stars unless you put the globe within a foot from the wall. It was a huge disapointment.



Buy something else! - -
This is a toy with a great concept but poor quality. We bought this at a local store for more money than here. We never could get the flashlight to work and even the directions say you might have a hard time with it! (That is a bad sign!)We finally took it back to the store and tried another one which also did not work. I would say skip this one. A good book and/or maps on planets would provide better entertainment and information than what this toy has to offer.

Wish I got robbed the money I used on this toy - M. Gakuria - Lincoln, NE USA
I love anything that deals with the stars, trying to get my nephew to like them and all.. I cant believe NatGeo would even give this toy such a big name and give it a colorful box to go with it. It is a real disappointment from the word go.
The halogen light run on batteries, that is a big no no right there, it doesn't produce enough light and the light is not bright at all making it look like a candle light.
The plastic around it is weak and feels cheap.
The 'cool blue' light is nothing but a disappointment, it doesn't light up nothing and it just look weird.
Bottom line, even for , NatGeo should have considered rethinking about this.
A real big miss for them on this one!
Don't buy, if you do go ahead and say bye to your money..

I can't believe that National Geographic has put their name on this product. It doesn't create lights on the ceiling representing stars, it creates shadows where the stars should be and it doesn't even do that well. On top of that it is made of incredibly low quality cheap plastic and the light burns out within minutes. Don't buy this toy unless you would just like to throw your money away anyway.

We bought this for my grandson who is interested in astronomy. Fortunately, I opened it to put in batteries and check it out before his birthday. The stars are projected as large dull fuzzy black spots on a white background - just the opposite of what they should be. Constellations names are barely legible. This is perhaps the worst educational toy I have ever seen. It will be returned.



You get what you pay for... - NiFO -
Considering how cheap this item is, it works about as well as you could expect for under . I returned it after testing it out, because I was so disappointed at the quality of the projections. While sitting on a nightstand, the projections it made on a standard 8-ft ceiling were less than mediocre. You couldn't even read most of the constellation names, let alone tell what was showing on the ceiling. I didn't like that it used batteries, either. And as the last reviewer stated, I guess it turns out it uses a lot of battery power. The coolest part of the thing was the nightlight, and if you want a nightlight, you're better off buying one for 1/4 of the price.

Very poor quality - Denver Dan - Denver, CO
I concur with the previous reviewer. I purchased the exact same device from another retailer for much more than the price listed here at Amazon. The light is very dim and the lens is cocked to one side slightly away from the point of magnification. It is permanently glued there, just as was previously noted. The single AA battery light is also very dim and the focus wheel slips badly. It is a poor design, coupled with a poor implementation.

I purchased this microscope as a gift for my grandson in another part of the country. When he got it he was extremely dissapointed. The focus mechanism did not work at all. A rubber wheel pushes the barrel of the microsope up and down. The barrel didn't move at all. It was so loose that even after putting 7 layers of transparent tape on the barrel it was still loose. There is a light, but the lens, which was glued in place, was cockeyed. It did not put any light whatsoever on the object being viewed. I do not recommend this microsope at any price.

Okay, first and foremost, the things that we've been able to see successfully, were AMAZING!! Example: legs from insects ON the slide look super!

The main problem that I see is that you can only see something that lays perfectly flat on the slide because there is no way to raise and lower the tray that the slide sits on. If you want to focus on say a BEE (as in the insect)- it's too THICK to see it while it's on the slide so you can try to handhold the micro away from the BEE a bit but to hold it still enough AND focus is very difficult and I always seem to lose my subject while trying to get it focused. But to add an adjustable height tray to hold the slide would make this MUCH BETTER!!! I definately recommend prepared slides for this toy :)

Otherwise, educational value for younger kiddos is super- do YOU know what the leg of a beetle looks like? I didn't until I bought this micro!! :)

Thought the hand held option would be great to show the kids what things looked like close up - was disapointed as focusing was tedious and everyone quickly lost interest - also the image when steady and focused was not very clear and sharp on the 26" lcd tv screen - didn't bother to test it on an analog set- seemed like a great idea for a product to get the future scientist or biologist in gear but didn't happen here - i still keep it nearby hoping for the right moment and the price was very reasonable and maybe, just maybe it'll eventually pay for itself-

Planet Frog Habitat Review

Like some others it took months for our tadpole to become a frog. The company was not very helpful when we called. Basically, the literature was quite misleading as to how long it takes for the transformation. We ran out of food before the change took place. Like others, we tried various environmental changes and believe that adding a little more indirect natural sunlight helped. I think the water temperature may have been a factor. However, it may merely have been a matter of time.

Froggie then lived for about a year after his transformation. My son was heartbroken when he died last week, so I am considering buying him another.

Planet Frog was not as durable as I had hoped, however, I don't think the inventors expected a soccer ball to go flying into the base and crush it. However, the main part with the water survived the impact.

First of all, we purchased this toy from a store that had a much higher price than Amazon, so that makes the experience more painful. Upon opening the habitat we discovered it is made of bendy, flimsy plastic, like the kind many toys come packaged in. Then, we ordered the tadpoles--another on top of the purchase price!!--7 weeks before my daughter's 6th birthday. 12 weeks later the tadpoles finally arrived. We live in the midwest and apparently it is nearly always too hot or too cold to ship tadpoles to us. Once they arrived, we were DILIGENT about following the directions. They seemed to make it clear these critters were specific in their needs and we had waited sooooo long...2 weeks later the first one died. 2 week after that, the 2nd one "croaked", and I wish I meant literally. NOTHING fun happened, no legs, and the water was almost always so cloudy from their food that you could barely see the tadpoles. This toy was such a bust. A complete waste of time and money, tho it seemed like it was going to be a really neat, educational experience.

I received my tadpoles in early April, 2009. They became frogs in July, 2009. This was quite a bit longer than advertised...After becoming frogs however, they required live food. i.e. crickets...This required a trip to Pet Co. However, crickets need their own ecosystyem to live...They all died. The frogs never touched them. I gave them pellets and blood worms...They did not eat that either...The frogs died...This made me sad...I do not recommend this item for children...Get the butterfly cage to teach children about metamorphosis. At least you can set them free...

My son got this from my sister for Christmas. I promptly ordered the tadpoles. We live in Texas, they arrived sometime in February. In April we took it to my son's 5th grade science class to live, still tadpoles. Luckily I read some more and found out they might need more warmth. Either adding the lamp now and then or the windows at the school did the trick and we have one frog. Still one tadpole, but at least one morphed before school let out. I think as with any product its about a life, and it cannot be predicted, so overall I am very satisfied. However the 15-30 day wait promised to the children is not true. We feed the frog grasshoppers from the yard. I have a 10 and 9 year old they both do well taking care of them, I hardly have to do much besides look at them.

The four experiments you see there is what you get 3 times. I thought there would be 12 assorted experiments. Two of the experiments you can use common household items. The other two (microscope and telescope) don't really work all that well. At that price it's really not worth it. Go to the local grocery store and invest in a bottle of glue and starch for the gooey and for the crystal get a box of borax. Total comes to well under dollars.

Gearation Refrigerator Magnets Review

It's a pretty simple toy, and it's not much of a toy for imaginative play, but our boys enjoy playing with it. I think we got our money's worth from this toy.

The older one (he has an "engineer" personality) especially likes to examine the gears and its geometric relationship as he spins the pieces manually. He has learned to attach gears in a chain, instead of just directly to the main hub.

We have a very small apartment with a very small kitchen, so it was a little difficult having them in there to play with it (and magnetic letters) on the refrigerator - we now have them play with the toy on the washer which is in the little space between the living room and the 2nd bedroom - that works well for us.

Loved it! I gave it to my 15 month old grand daughter and her Dad loves the toy as much as she does. She isn't able to turn it on yet but she still enjoys playing with the gears and motion of the gears when someone turns it on for her. She has dropped the separate pieces on the floor several times, but it is sturdy and still works.

One of the items (the main gear) arrived not working. While Amazon would have shipped it back for free, I have very little time to get to the post office, let alone re-package. So, with that in mind, I kept all the gears. My sons use them on this Step 2 easel on the magnetic side. Early Intervention recommended due to my sons' muscle tone issues that they reach up. This certainly is a motivator for them... and has HELPED tremendously, with sacral sitting issues and core muscle issues. Worth every dime. Fun to play with. Like others,, I wish more gears came with them but I did order 2... and though the 2nd big battery operated gear came broken, at least I have a bunch of gears for them.

Peter Pan (2-Disc Platinum Edition) Review

I loved Mary Martin's Peter Pan since I was a child, so when my 5 year old niece requested the Disney film, I was pleased to be able to order it for her. She was delighted, as her mother hadn't been able to find the DVD. Though not as enthralling(at least to me)as Martin's version, my niece is thrilled with it. And although I'm nearing "senior discount" the idea of never growing up still appeals to me!

This Disney Classic film was always one of my favorites, and continues to entertain more and more, as my two-year-old son now loves to watch Captain Hook and the pirates. He also loves to pretend he is flying just like Pan and the kids.

This item, which was a Christmas present for our grandson, was delivered very quickly. He was delighted with it and, as he is very interested in astronomy, he uses it regularly along with his telescope.

It seems to be working well after a month.
