Okay, first and foremost, the things that we've been able to see successfully, were AMAZING!! Example: legs from insects ON the slide look super!
The main problem that I see is that you can only see something that lays perfectly flat on the slide because there is no way to raise and lower the tray that the slide sits on. If you want to focus on say a BEE (as in the insect)- it's too THICK to see it while it's on the slide so you can try to handhold the micro away from the BEE a bit but to hold it still enough AND focus is very difficult and I always seem to lose my subject while trying to get it focused. But to add an adjustable height tray to hold the slide would make this MUCH BETTER!!! I definately recommend prepared slides for this toy :)
Otherwise, educational value for younger kiddos is super- do YOU know what the leg of a beetle looks like? I didn't until I bought this micro!! :)

Thought the hand held option would be great to show the kids what things looked like close up - was disapointed as focusing was tedious and everyone quickly lost interest - also the image when steady and focused was not very clear and sharp on the 26" lcd tv screen - didn't bother to test it on an analog set- seemed like a great idea for a product to get the future scientist or biologist in gear but didn't happen here - i still keep it nearby hoping for the right moment and the price was very reasonable and maybe, just maybe it'll eventually pay for itself-

Hooked up to tv and had a difficult time getting focused and the best we could get was very poor quality.
