National Geographic 3-D Projector-Sea Monsters! Review

We bought this for our daughter and just like the other reviewers here we (parents) were disappointed by the negligible 3D effect but our daughter (6) seemed unconcerned and was excited by the projector and the overall bedroom ceiling experience. I have now solved the 3D problem by finding other magenta/cyan glasses because the problem was with the magenta filter being waaaay too dark. We used a pair from a Harkins (movie) Theaters 3D kids snack-pack carton but I am sure any other 3D glasses would work just as well. Even if you cut out the magenta film and replaced it with a suitable candy wrapper, or clear film colored with a permanent 'red' broad-nib marker.
I'd love to find another set of images. I see that there is an identical unit under another brand which is marketed as a space exploration set, but I don't want another projector, just the slides.
BTW, I am very impressed by the quality of the projector's optics for <. Very crisp and corner-to-corner in focus.

If you can overlook the 3-D promise, it's a great toy - C. Levy -
For .99 I wasn't expecting anything that great. Let's be honest here. So yes, though I was disappointed that there was no real 3-D effect, that wasn't a big deal at all. Would have been nice and very cool, but I wasn't surprised. That is the only thing that gives this a low grade. The other bad thing is that there aren't other slide packets that I can find -- HOWEVER once my son and I huddled in the dark walk-in closet (we couldn't wait until night-time and that was the darkest place) we popped in the CD and started the slide show. It was FUN! My son feels like he owns his own theater and he watched it about 4 more times that day. It has a very "planetarium"-like feel to the tour. The audio makes it all feel very professional and impressive. And every time he has friends over they huddle in the big closet watching the show. NOT ONE complains that they can't see the 3-D effects. If they would make OTHER slide/CD "refills" (you know what I mean) WITHOUT the 3-D effect, they would sell more of these and I would buy a few more, I promise!
So what if it isn't IMAX? - Julianna McDuffie - San Marcos, CA
I've just finished watching this with my extremely gifted 6 year-old who got this as a birthday present... We were lying on the floor of his room, watching the images on the ceiling and giggling together having some really nice quality time. I don't know what people expect for a projection image - I certainly wasn't thinking that this would be some hi-res, fine optical quality presentation. The narration on the CD was nice (although I will say that it could have gone a little faster), and we had a great time together. What more could you ask for? Afterward, only jumped online to find more presentation slides... but then I saw the bad reviews and felt that I ought to jump in with a different viewpoint.
Where is the 3-D? - An Amazon Fan - WV USA
I agree with the other reviewers. I could hardly see any 3-D effect. I read the instructions carefully and followed every step, but still I don't get the point - wearing the glasses only makes the images harder to see, not to mention any stunning 3-D effects. I'm so disappointed and will try to return it.
